1900 - Snakes and Ladders - Spears
Early Snakes and Ladders were used as a way of teaching children right from wrong, of which this is a good example.
The virtues and vices are explained on the board as are the rules.
A pretty version of the game that was produced in more than one style.

Conditions Box very battered but these do rarely survive at all – Board good no damage but a little dusty – no pieces but bone counters could be supplied if required.

c1920 - Snakes and Ladders
This Snakes and Ladder Board is use to show cildren that winning is important.
Aimed to teach children to be competive – losing the lead gets a snake – but hitting a winnig shot at cricket or golf send you up a ladder.
The pictures are identical to an earlier version which had the action squares in black/white – but these are in color
