c1900 -Rufa - De La Rue

A Pagoda Building Game.

An early and unuusual game by De La Rue – copyright by Ernest Legh.     The aim of the game is to build a pagoda with specially designed cards without causing the structure to collapse.

There is a baseboard for the building with gauges that ensure that the first storey is corrrect.  It seems complex with rules for attempting to replace partial collapse and foul placement of cards

Rufa – Condition – Complete / Cards – four sets of 24 cards – two sets probably never used – the other two sets have a couple of lightly creased cards still very good – The baseboard is at the bottom of the box – it is fine – the centre piece is not fixed / Box (inside used as base for game) – good, complete,  outside scuffed at the edges / Rules inside lid – very good.

1905 - Iddy Umpty - De La Rue

This is dated from the Registration No 423765.

The expression Iddy Uppy was slang for a signaller in the army.

“Iddy Umpty” is a representation of the dots and dashes of the Morse code. The troops were taught to recognise a dot or a dash by the sound of the signalling machine: a dot made an “iddy” sound and a dash sounded like “umpty”.

So ‘Iddy Umpty’ in that way became slang for a signaller.

Iddy Umpty Condition .  Complete – Cards/rules/ very good – Box very good – lightly scuffed one corner split.
