c1890 - 1900 - Sons of the Empire - Globe Games

Sons of the Empire – A New Card Game.

An interesting card game, which is a “take game” not a simple snap game.

The cards are all dealt facedown and the player to the left of the dealer plays a card face up, the player on his left does the same. When two of the same card are played immediately after each other he calls “take” and takes the cards. However if the player after his plays before he calls take he cannot claim the cards.  If any player plays a “Unity card”  and calls “Unity” he takes the lot.

The game has colorful characers  and  a tongue-in-cheek lview of Victoria’s armed forces.

These Globe games by Oppenheimer und Sulzbacher are hard to date. It seems that they were published between the 1890s up to around the start of the first World War when German sources were cut of, wooden boxex were replced with cardboard probably c1900.

1890-1895 Gallopea - Globe Games

This is an unusual and very pretty Horse Racing Board made by Globe Games.

As with all their games the artwork is very good and slightly different. The picture shows the board with the original playing pieces lying on the board on the right hand centre portion.

Gallopea – Condition / The board is very good – no damage, very clean and bright

/ Horses – very good one missing a head otherwise just light paint damage

/ Spinner good – this should fit onto a metal shaft the fits through a hole in the board – it can be balanced to work but ideally the shaft should be soldered onto its base (all there) but we don’t like to repair things as some people prefer them unrepaired

/ No rules but a photocopy of a Globe Games Advertsing Phamplet which shows the game

Postage / As postage often changes it will be provided at time of purchase. Postage will be at cost rounded up to the nearest £1.00 to cover packaging.

c1900 - Karoo - Globe Games

“Karoo”,  a beautifully illustrated card game, was  presented in a wooden box.

Probably an early version as there is no price on the box and the number of cards on the box seems incorrect (24 cards when it contains 48).

The game comprises 16 figures which are divided into three parts, the object being to complete as many complete figures as possible.

They were made between about 1890 and 1900 by Oppenheimer und Sulzbacher of Nuremberg.

Condition –  Cards are complete – light use – one card has a small tear / Original Rules / Wooden Box -rim of base is missing, label damaged with a portion at the bottom no longer present.
